Pre-workout Review: Beyond Raw: Lit

Updated: Jul 23, 2020

Beyond Raw is far and away my favorite pre-workout brand. Beyond Raw: Lit, their original product, is definitely the best tasting on the market. If you love sweet, powerful flavors that taste like what they are advertised to, you'd love Lit.

Where to Buy: Beyond Raw has an exclusive deal with GNC to sell their products, but you can purchase Lit on amazon as well. For the most up-to-date flavors, go to GNC or their website. Click the links below to purchase online:

Lit is a medium-strength Pre-workout. I like Lit because they are pretty transparent with their ingredients

Flavor Reviews:

Here are all the flavors I've tried of Lit. Almost all of them are good, but some are better than others.

Blue Raspberry: 10/10

This flavor is exactly what anyone is hoping for when they taste something blue raspberry. It's sweet, a bit tangy, yet still refreshing. In my opinion, it's way better than the blue raspberry Icees you can get at burger king, 7/11, or the movie theater, but none of the sugar! It is a truly flawless flavor.

Cotton Candy: 9.8/10

If you like sweet things, this one is your go-to. It tastes like dessert, but before you work out. Cotton Candy is my personal favorite of Lit, but I gave it a small deduction because it isn't as refreshing as some of the other flavors. This pre-workout is so good that I look forward to working out just so I can drink it.

Strawberry Lemonade: 9.6/10

On hot days where I want something cool and refreshing, a Strawberry Lemonade Lit slushy is exactly what I need to get me hyped for a hard workout. It has a good blend of sweet and sour, but it has an excellent fresh yet powerful taste that makes you feel like you're doing something good for your body.

Orange Mango: 9.5/10

As someone who doesn't really love the orange flavor, I was genuinely shocked by how good this flavor is. It has a stronger mango flavor than orange, but they both blend well to create a new, refreshing flavor. The only thing it's missing is a bit of power, as it is one of the calmer flavors of Lit.

Candy Apple: 9.4/10

This is probably my second favorite flavor. I definitely wasn't too into the whole "candy apple" idea when I first saw it, but after giving it a chance, I'm so happy I did. If you're not interested in the name, think of it more like a sweeter apple juice energy drink that will give you an amazing energy boost.

Icy Fireworks: 9.3/10

Think rocket pop with an ever-so-slight chemical after taste. If you used to order rocket pops from the ice cream truck, this flavor won't let you down.

Beyond Dew: 9.2/10

If you love mountain dew, this flavor is for you. It tastes almost identical to mountain dew, except it tastes a little more energizing (because it has three times the caffeine). Also, this isn't super relevant to the taste, but the black on black logo for the name looked great on the Lit containers.

Gummy Worm: 9/10

Gummy Worm is Lit's marquee flavor. When I went to GNC 5 years ago and stumbled onto Lit for the first time, the only two flavors they had were gummy worm and gummy fish (which is actually the best flavor of Lit, but they don't make it anymore). Gummy worm is great. It tastes like a gummy worm, but I think it is a bit overhyped. This is probably my most controversial rating, but I stand by it.

Banana Taffy: 8.7/10

Taste as advertised. If you've ever had a banana laffy taffy, the taste is very similar, but maybe a bit more sour. However, Banana Taffy is still refreshing, and is a great way to start your workout.

Cherry Slush: 8.3/10

Solid flavor. Definitely a strong cherry taste, but it tastes way worse than the movie theater Icees. It's enjoyable to drink, but I'm not dying to drink it every day. Also, this may just be me, but sometimes it gives me a bit of a stomach ache (only this flavor).

Spiced Cider: 8.3/10

It's a good flavor, but it's easy to get sick of. It tastes like apple cider with a kick. This pre was good for when it was cold out, though, as I would microwave it and drink it as if it was hot apple cider.

Sweet and Tart: 8.1/10

Yes, it tastes exactly like a sweet tart, but I'm not exactly sure that's a good thing. It was really sour, and I'm not sure that's something I look for in my pre-workout. I guess the difference between this and the other candy flavors is that the other one's were still refreshing.

Grape: 7.9/10

Disappointing. I love the grape flavor (especially grape soda), but I don't think Lit nailed it. I can't explain what's wrong with it, but it is something. This flavor may be better than I'm rating it because I was expecting it to be so much better, but if you love grape and need to try it, don't be expecting Welch's Grape Soda.

Rainbow Sherbert: 7.5/10

My personal advice, don't turn Ice Cream into pre-workout. Rainbow sherbert is a good ice cream because of the cream, not because of the orange rainbow flavor, and I didn't know that until Lit. However, if you mix this flavor with vanilla halo top and some ice, it really does taste like rainbow sherbert (that combo is probably a 9/10).

Dragon Fruit: 7.4/10

It's okay. Kind of an awkward flavor. Maybe it does taste like dragon fruit, but then dragon fruit isn't what I want my pre-workout to taste like. Also has a pretty strong chemical taste, which I can't imagine is anyone's favorite.

Pineapple Upside Down Cake: 5/10

Beyond Raw botched this flavor. I love pineapple, but this is just bad. It tastes so chemical that you forget that you're drinking something that's supposed to taste like pineapple.

Peanut Butter and Jelly: Not Even Gonna Rate This One/10

Who ever thought PB&J would taste good as a pre-workout? If the person who made this flavor is reading this, it's pretty obvious why you got fired. I mean, it doesn't taste terrible, but it's definitely not a pre-workout. If you get it just to try it, that's $40 you're never getting back!

Flavors I have not tried:

Fruit Punch

Peach Rings

Rainbow Candy

Iced Tea Lemonade

Raspberry Tea

Sour Gummy

I hope you guys enjoyed/found some value in this post. Comment your favorite flavor of Lit, or the pre-workout you want me to review next!
